The weather in Kansas City was dark and overcast on Thursday, Obama's last day in office, and the clouds remained throughout the day on Friday as Trump was inaugurated. When I woke up on Saturday morning, the sky was gray-blue and the streets were wet and I braced myself for a cold and drizzly afternoon of protesting. But by the time I started cutting up poster board to make signs for the rally, the sky cleared and the sun came out. Crowds gathered in Kansas City's Washington Square Park in solidarity with the Women's March on Washington and the sister marches across the country and around the world. The sun was warm on our faces and people were kind to each other. However disheartened I may have felt on the day of the inauguration, I felt proud and hopeful as I stood with these 10,000 strangers, united together against hate. Here's a look at what I saw:
